Emily Torrence is a project manager at Corbin Design and joined the team in January 2020. With a background in communication and marketing, she enjoys working with project teams and clients to effectively bring logical, beautiful wayfinding systems to reality. Her favorite part of her position is traveling to new places and navigating the space for the first time. She's always had a deep appreciation for effective wayfinding materials and is excited to be part of the team that makes it happen.
Originally from Grand Rapids, MI (Beer City, USA), Emily loves the energy of a city, but the access to natural areas and freshwater that Michigan affords her. She attended John Ball Zoo School, and her favorite course was orienteering, which taught her invaluable skills as part of a wayfinding team. She then attended Central Michigan University where she earned a bachelor's degree in communication and psychology and a master's degree in communication. While there, she taught the basic communication course to undergrad students and was a research assistant. This helped to develop her love of critical questions and analysis of data. Then she worked for Short's Brewing Company, where she grew into the role of marketing director, which developed her creative side while managing the many diverse projects in a competitive and fun industry. Always learning, Emily is a member of The Project Management Institute and working towards her PMP certification.
Outside of work, Emily enjoys exploring all that northern Michigan has to offer. She loves waterskiing, golfing or traveling with her husband, Joe, and boating on Higgins Lake.
