It had been nearly 30 years since Grand Rapids Community College had any major changes to their campus signage when Corbin Design was brought on board. With a goal to revamp the entire wayfinding signage design and system, the newly implemented designs will help pedestrians and motorists identify and navigate the downtown campus environment.
One major update to the sign design was to prominently display the building addresses on identification signs to assist people following directions on their mobile phones. Parking logic was also simplified to identify the parking lots/garages using easy-to-remember alpha characters.
The bright, modern design helps identify the college in a uniquely urban environment that borders the historic Heritage Hill neighborhood and downtown Grand Rapids. The Main Campus and DeVos Campus located near one another needed to be separately identified. Certain sign types feature the campus name on the bottom panel of the sign to help students and visitors identify which campus they’re currently on.
